CoExistence was produced for the French Scelles Foundation which fights sexual exploitation of human beings since 1993. It deals with the trivialization of sexual violence. This trivialization can be observed whatever the ethnical and the social origins of the victims are. Worse, medias sometimes tone done prostitution while numerous prostitutes suffer from physical and moral violence coming from their pimps but also from their clients.
This project underlines the coexistence of a fantasized glamour image of prostitution with its mostly harsh reality. It is based on both the seduction and the repulsion of the viewer. However, sexual exploitation mustn’t be simply observed. That is why official statistic documentation is used in this project (see video) to show that it is possible to fight against it.
This project was awarded the Best Photo Price by the Scelles Foundation in June 2014.
